The National Election Commission released the results of analysis of voter turnout for the 22nd National Assembly election held on April 10. This analysis was conducted on 4,480,811 people, or 10.1% of the total 44,251,919 voters, based on the voter list, and the sample survey voter turnout (67.2%) showed a difference of 0.2%p from the actual voter turnout (67.0%).

A full survey was conducted for early voting and overseas voting. The results of analysis of voter turnout by age group, gender, and region for the 22nd National Election are as follows.

Overall Turnout

Voters in their 70s had the highest at 84.7%, followed by the 60s (82.0%) and the 50s (71.6%), while the 20s had the lowest at 52.4%. While the voter turnout was low in the 30s and younger age groups, the voter turnout tended to increase as the age group increased from the 40s onwards.

Compared to the previous 21st National Assembly election, the voter turnout increased for those in their 50s and older, but decreased for those in their 40s and younger.

Voter Turnout by Gender

67.9% of women and 66.5% of men participated in the vote, showing a higher female voter turnout than male voter turnout, similar to the previous 21st national election (66.7% of women and 66.3% of men).

Looking at the voter turnout by gender and region, the top three regions for men and women were all Jeonnam (70.1%, 70.3%), Sejong (70.7%, 69.6%), and Seoul (68.6%, 70.2%).

The voter turnout gap between men and women in the same region was 2.7%p in Busan (66.0, 68.7), Daegu (62.5, 65.2), and Gwangju (66.7, 69.4).

Early Voter Turnout

The early voting rate for the 22nd national election was 31.3%, and men (33.2%) were 3.8%p higher than women (29.4%).

The regions with high early voting rates for both men and women were Jeonnam (42.8%, 39.6%), Jeonbuk (40.4%, 36.6%), and Gwangju (39.2%, 36.8%).

By administrative district size, the county area had the highest early voting rate at 37.4%, followed by special cities (32.6%), medium and small cities (30.2%), metropolitan cities (30.2%), and towns (30.2%). By age group, the 60s (40.8%) and 70s (37.5%) had the highest early voting rate, while 18-year-olds (22.9%) had the lowest early voting rate.

Overseas Voter Turnout

The overseas voting rate for the 22nd national election was 62.8%, with men (63.8%) slightly higher than women (61.7%).

By gender and age group, men showed the highest voter turnout in their 50s (70.7%), while women showed the highest voter turnout in those 18 years old (68.9%).
