The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea will be holding the 2nd Nationwide Simultaneous Elections for Heads of Cooperatives in which 1,344 representatives of agricultural, fishery and forestry cooperatives will be elected on March 13 at 1,823 polling stations nationwide.

The location of polling stations can be found in the voting instructions sent to each eligible voter by the NEC, and the polling station addresses and maps can be found on the NEC’s homepage (http://www.nec.go.kr).

When an eligible voter goes to the polling stations, they must bring a valid form of identification with a photograph of the voter on it such as a resident registration card, passport, driver''s license, or other photo ID issued by a government office or public organization. In the case that someone is voting on behalf of an organization, they should bring a certified copy of the corporate register, a business registration certificate or a document that proves the registration of an organization, and an ID card of the legal representative (with delegated authority) of the organization.

Polling stations will be using the integrated voters list and the ballot paper printing machine so that the voter can be identified and their ballot paper printed promptly and accurately. The integrated voters list and the ballot paper printing machine were introduced into public elections for early voting from 2013 and have received praise for the convenience for voters and the stability of the system.

When voting, the marking device already in the voting booth should be used to mark the ballot paper and ballots will be invalid if any other marking device is used, if the voter marks in the box of two or more candidates, if the voter does not mark in the box of any candidate or it is not possible to recognize which candidate they have voted for.

At the close of voting, ballot boxes will be moved to the counting center, where vote counting will take place in the presence of observers appointed by each candidate. It will be possible to check the results on the NEC’s homepage.

The NEC said it will broadcast the voting process, closing, and counting process on its own eTV channel to help the public understand the election process and to deliver the live status of voting and counting to all citizens.

The NEC also encouraged all eligible voters to participate in voting after examining the candidates’ policies and pledges in the election material and posted elsewhere.
