Columns in the Name of Candidates that are Favorable or Unfavorable to Political Parties or Candidates Prohibited

Date :01/10/2020Read : 40

= Prohibited on internet news websites from 90 days before election day until election day =

The Internet Election News Deliberation Commission (IENDC) said it revised the regulations on the standards of reviewing of election-related internet news, which previously uniformly prohibited columns written in the name of candidates from 90 days before the election until election day, according to the unconstitutionality ruling of the Constitution Court. The revision took effects as of December 30, 2019.

According to the unconstitutionality ruling, the purpose of these revisions is to clarify and limit the scope of the restriction of columns to those ‘which are favorable or unfavorable to a particular political party or candidate.’

Therefore, columns written in the name of a candidate that does not affect the election are allowed to be published even after 90 days prior to election day, but columns in the name of a candidate that are favorable or unfavorable to certain political parties and candidates are still restricted.

Meanwhile, the IENDC said that it is operating an expanded team dedicated to monitoring unfair election reporting in preparation for the 21st National Assembly elections, and that it will make efforts to ensure that internet media can deliver balanced and objective information on political parties and candidates to voters.
