According to the National Election Commission, 17 Si/Do Election Commissions had a starting ceremony for the Fair Election Support Group on April 1, 60 days before the 6th Nationwide Local Elections, which would mount a full-scale effort to prevent and crack down on election law violations. The starting ceremony was attended by approx. 6,600 participants, including 6,400 support group members and 200 employees. The Fair Election Support Group resolved to fairly manage the upcoming local elections in a strict and impartial manner and vowed to take the lead in settling a clean electoral culture. Each Si/Do Election Commission also had other events such as a campaign and a performance for the purpose of wishing for fair election to attract local voters’ attention and participation in creating an atmosphere of observing the election law. Meanwhile, the NEC is planning to guarantee the public’s freedom of political expression and participation in election to the greatest extent possible and intensify efforts to provide in advance guidance on ‘acceptable cases’ from the point of view of political parties and candidates and take preventive action. The Fair Election Support Group will accordingly visit party/election campaign offices to support providing guidance on the election law and taking preventive action and will also get in-service training through the KOCEI cyber education program and workshops that touch on each area to strengthen the group members’ professionalism and ability before starting activities. The NEC expressed its expectation that the Fair Election Support Group would make a huge contribution to creating a fair and clean electoral atmosphere for the upcoming local elections just as in the previous election where it greatly contributed to preventing and regulating illegal election campaigns. |
