A Meeting between the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan and the National Election Commission of Korea

The Chairperson of Election Commission of the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan promises to take active part in A-WEB’s activities and encourage EMBs in Central Asia to join the A-WEB

 

The National Election Commission had a meeting with the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan on February 27, where they expressed their determination to work together for the successful settlement of Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) and to promote friendly relationship between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdraimov Turgunaly Duyshenalievich, the Chairperson of CEC of Kyrgyzstan, Hon. Lee In-Bok, the Chairperson of NEC of Korea, Mr. Kim Yong-Hi, the Secretary-General of A-WEB, etc. in which the two Chairpersons discussed the development of democracy around the world and ways for the two countries to cooperate.

 

At the meeting, the Chairperson of CEC of Kyrgyzstan promised CEC’s active participation and support regarding activities of A-WEB, whose establishment was initiated under NEC’s leadership. He also suggested the signing of MoU to promote exchange and cooperate between the two EMBs.

 

The Chairperson of CEC of Kyrgyzstan also promised his active efforts to encourage EMBs in the Commonwealth of Independent States to join the A-WEB and said he would actively participate in A-WEB’s programmes to advance democracy across the globe.

-          The political community formed by 11 out of the Republics comprising the Soviet Union after its collapse

-          Member states: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan (associate member)

 

Kyrgyzstan, the resource-rich country in Central Asia experienced 2 regime transitions by people in 2005 and 2010 and a peaceful regime transition in 2011 and is recognized as the country that has gone through successful democratization in Central Asia.

 

A-WEB is the largest international organization joined by 97 EMBs and relevant international organizations for the advancement and the settlement of democracy worldwide. The inaugural assembly of A-WEB was held in Songdo, Incheon on October 14, 2013 and its Secretariat is due to be officially open in Korea in April this year.

 

Meanwhile, the NEC and the A-WEB are planning to co-host an international election observation programme to be attended by countries around the world during June 4 Nationwide Local Elections to spread the advanced Korean electoral culture and promote exchange and cooperation among EMBs across the globe.
