Visit of the Thailand delegation to the NEC

The NEC received a visit of the participants of the Advanced Political and Electoral Development Training Program (APED), headed by Secretary-General Dr. Suthiphon Thaveechaiyagarn of the Election Commission of Thailand(ECT), on February 15, 2011.

 

The delegation consists of 43 students from various careers including senators, representatives, political party executives, and high-level government officials. The purpose of this study visit was to obtain knowledge and information about Korea''s electoral management system, use of technology in election, and election training program.

 

The meeting was opened with a welcoming speech by Standing Commissioner Kyung-keun, Kang, followed by the introduction of the NEC and Korea''s electoral system and Q&A session presided over by Secretary-General Jong-woo, Lee. There was also a demonstration of the touch-screen voting machine and the automatic ballot counting and sorting machine.

 

The Thai delegation is scheduled to make a study visit to the Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy(KOCEI) and the Jeju-do Election Commission.
