Meeting for the 5th Nationwide Local Elections

The NEC held a meeting, discussing measures to manage the 5th Nationwide Local Elections


effectively.


 


The special meeting was held at the hotel ''''Riviera'''' on January 21, participating about 500


executives of the NEC and Si/Do Election Commissions to take comprehensive countermeasures


for the 5th Nationwide Local Elections.


 


In the meeting, discussions were made on how to sustain and develop the fair and clean election culture.


Furthermore, measures were discussed for the competent management of the Nationwide Local Elections,


which would bring unprecedented amount of workload due to the number of ballots. The 2010 local elections


which mark the 20th anniversary of the local government system might be the barometer for


the consolidation of grass-roots democracy.


 


  The main instruction contents are as follows:


- Strict enforcement and prevention activities on the election crimes such as bribery, public


   servants'''' involvement in campaigning, negative campaigns, etc.


- Expansion of convenient service for voters through rapid and accurate response to the queries


   on the election process


- Impartial and transparent election management


- Promotion of policy-oriented election, called "Manifestos"


- Increasing voter turnout


- Establishment of public consensus in the fair election
