Training programme for electoral officials from Ecuador and Cambodia

The Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy provided a training programme for electoral officials from Ecuador and Cambodia visiting the Republic of Korea to learn the advanced election system of Korea from October 22 to November 1.

The training program was provided to 11 persons, including the electoral officials from Ecuador and the scholars from the Royal Academy of Cambodia who had requested a program for the purpose of comparing and studying the election systems. The program included the introduction to the election/political party/political fund systems and advanced election management techniques in Korea, presentations on the election system of the participating countries, discussions on how to reform the systems to achieve fair elections, etc.

Especially on October 29, the participants visited a polling station and a counting centre set up for the by-elections held in Gyeongsangbuk-do to observe the voting/counting management procedures, including how voting proceeds, how counting process is managed, etc., which is expected to contribute to developing the election system of the participating countries.

The KOCEI has so far provided 34 training programmes to 404 electoral officials from 45 emerging democracies and is recognized as promoting friendly relations with participating countries and contributing to the development of democratic politics around the globe.
