Date :03/15/2013Read : 234

High turnout has been emphasised for the sustainable democracy since voting is the basic channel of reflecting citizens’ political preferences. In this regard, the NEC has been running various PR activities to encourage citizens’ voting rate. In particular, the Jeon-nam election commission has published pictograms, as the first attempt in Korean election PR activities, to increase local residents’ higher turnout in the coming local elections.

On April 8, 2010, the Jeon-nam election commission divulged three types of pictograms which are designs of pictorial symbols to quickly deliver messages to people. The three types of election pictograms contain the NEC’s goals in the coming local elections for the development of Korean democracy: 1) participation in voting, 2) voting based on considering pledges and 3) eradication of rigged election. The Jeon-nam election commission plans to spread these pictograms in the Internet and put in printed materials. Additionally, the pictograms will be posted in public places such as town halls, senior community centres, etc.

The strongest point of pictogram is that people can easily understand the meaning without consuming much of their time. This new attempt, conveyance of messages for fair and clean election through the easy and simple way, will contribute to the higher turnout and the accomplishment of transparent election on June 2, 2010.
