Dr. Kyung Keun KANG Becomes the Standing Commissioner of the NEC



The National Election Commission held a general meeting on the 14th of December, 2009
and elected Dr. KANG as the new standing commissioner. The inauguration ceremony was
held on the same day in the National Election Commission office building in Gwacheon.



The new Standing Commissioner KANG , appointed by the president as a member of the NEC
on December 10, 2009, graduated from Jemulpo High School and the Korea University Law School.
He is a law professor at Soongsil University where he served as the dean of the Law School.
Moreover, he has worked for the Administrative Appeals Board and Government Legislative Council
among many others and has taken an active role as the co-president of the Constitution Forum and
vice president of the Korea Public Law Association.



Chief Justice Wook Seo KOO of the Taejon High Court and Chief Justice Jin Kwon KIM of the Seoul
Eastern District Court were designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on December 10, 2009
as successors to Commissioners Gi Sik SON and Se Bin OH.



Commissioner KOO graduated from the Kyungbook National University Law School and passed
the 18th judicial examination. He has served as a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court, a professor
of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, the presiding judge of the Seoul Administrative Court
and the chief justice of the Seoul Southern District Court.



Commissioner KIM, the chief justice of Seoul Eastern District Court, graduated from the Seoul National
University Law School and passed the 19th judicial examination. He has served as a judicial clerk
at the Supreme Court, the presiding judge of the Gwangju High Court, the chief justice of the Daejeon
District Court and the chief justice of the Suwon District Court.



The National Election Commission is composed of 9 commissioners pursuant to the article 114 of the
Constitution. Three members are appointed by the President, another three are elected by the National
Assembly, and the other three are nominated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
