The National Election Commission is scheduled to hold an academic seminar on “The 18th Presidential Election and Manifesto/Policy-oriented Election” in partnership with the Korean Association of Party Studies and the Korean Election Association on July 18 at 14:00 at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The academic seminar has been arranged to settle a culture of policy-oriented election through the 18th Presidential Election, enhance an electoral culture and promote the advancement of democracy. It will include presentations and discussions among academic experts and group discussions among representatives of political and media fields, civic groups and the election commissions.

According to the NEC, it plans on promoting activities to hold the 18th Presidential Election in the form of policy-oriented elections through which candidates compete based on policies and pledges, starting with the “Academic Seminar on Policy-oriented Elections” held on July 18.

The NEC is scheduled to develop and provide policy agendas to assist candidates and political parties in establishing pledges. The NEC also plans on supporting activities to promote policy-oriented elections such as by forming an “Association for Promoting Policy-oriented Elections” and comparing/evaluating policies and pledges presented by political parties and candidates in partnership with the media, academic field and civic groups.
