Date :01/04/2013Read : 419

The National Election Commission invited legislation personnel from the General Election Commission of Mongolia and hosted a seminar on the improvement of Mongolian electoral law from December 1 to 8, 2012.

The National Election Commission of Korea has made a proposal for improvement after comparing the Mongolian Presidential Election Law, Parliamentary Election Law and Local Council Election Law with the electoral law in each country including the Korean one and analyzing them. The participants from the National Election Commission of Korea and General Election Commission of Mongolia reviewed the political culture and local circumstances in Mongolia based on the proposal and came up with the final plan at the seminar.

According to Mr Jeong-Gon Kim, Director of International Cooperation Division of the NEC who hosted the seminar as a representative of the NEC working group, the seminar on improving Mongolian electoral law served as a good opportunity to find a way towards the development of democracy in the two countries on the basis of mutual understanding of the political/electoral systems in the two countries. Senior Officer OYUMAA Byambaa who attended the seminar representing the GEC of Mongolia expressed her gratitude to the NEC of Korea for their hard work and good advice despite their busy schedule with the Presidential Election coming up in December. She also said the proposal made by the NEC would be actively reflected in the improvement of the Public Official Election Act in Mongolia.

The NEC of Korea and the GEC of Mongolia have been striving to constantly promote mutual cooperation and friendly relations between the two institutions since the signing of Memorandum of Understanding in March 2011. The seminar is one of the efforts made. The NEC of Korea has already supported the improvement of electoral system and political party system in Nepal in 2010 and 2011. The NEC of Korea will constantly support the legal system in emerging democracies for their political development.

The representatives of the GEC of Mongolia visited the NEC of Korea on December 3, where they met with Dr Seong-Ryong Lee, Chief Planning & Coordination Officer and had a talk about the Public Official Election Act, Political Party & Political Fund System, etc. in Korea.
