Commissioner Visits Venezuela and Mexico

The delegation of the NEC (led by the commissioner, Dr. Kyung-Keun KANG) participated as special guests of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela in the International Electoral Accompaniment Program of the Primaries of the National Unity held on February 12th, 2012. The delegation visited the National Center of preparation and distribution of voting machines of the National Electoral Council and observed the process of elections by visiting polling stations on the election day.

 

The commissioner, Dr. Kang, met with the president of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (Tibisay Lucena Ramirez) and had a conversation on strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two countries for the development of democracy.

 

The delegation also had a conversation with the participants in order to make them have a keen interest in the establishment of the Association of the World Election Bodies(A-WEB) as explaining the NEC’s plan for meetings of the working group and the vision of the A-WEB.

 

In addition, the commissioner visited the Federal Electoral Institute of Mexico on February 16th and met with the chairperson (Leonardo Valdes Zurita). Both sides agreed that they will work together to build the cooperative relationship for the development of democracy in the future by sharing information and experiences on the election.

 

The commissioner asked the chairperson to actively participate in establishing the A-WEB and working group and the chairperson expressed his deep interest and support for the plan.

 

During his trip, Dr. Kang checked out the preparation for overseas voting, as he visited Guatemala and Mexico.
