Voter Turnout Reached 51.2% in April 3 Re and By-Elections for National Assembly Members

= Overall final turnout was 48.0%, with elections for local council members reaching a turnout of 32.6% =

 

The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea announced the results of the April 3 re and by-elections for constituency members of the National Assembly, confirming that Yeo Young-guk of the Justice Party has been elected as Seongsan-gu Changwon-si constituency member and Jung Jeom-sik of the Liberty Korea Party has been elected as the Tongyeong-si and Goseong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province constituency member. 

 

In addition, three candidates were elected in elections for local council members in three different regions. The term of office for all of the members elected in these re and by-elections begins from when they are confirmed as elected and they will see out the remaining term of office of their predecessors. 

 

The final confirmed overall turnout was 48.0%, with 196,604 of the 409,566 registered voters casting a ballot. The details were as follows: 

 

• Both re and by-elections for constituency members of the National Assembly showed the same turnout of 51.2%, and the district with the highest turnout among the constituencies was Goseong-gun, which had a turnout rate of 53.5%.  

 

• The average of the three re and by-elections for local council members was recorded at 32.6%, with turnouts of 21.8% in Jeonju City 4th district, 40.5% in Mungyeong 2nd district and 44.6% in Mungyeong 4th district.
