NEC Introduces the Korean Election System to Korea-based Diplomats

On May 30, the National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea introduced the Korean election system and the preparation for the 7th nationwide simultaneous local elections to 28 diplomats, including ambassadors from seven countries including Romania, Honduras and Myanmar.

 

The visit was part of the ‘Good Governance Series’ run by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety aimed at spreading Korea`s experiences in developing public administration with other countries. 

 

Following a welcome address by Secretary General Kim Dai-nyeon and remarks by Romanian Ambassador Mihaichi Ompec, the NEC introduced the Korean election system and local election preparations, the participants experienced early voting and NEC staff demonstrated the optical scan ballot sorting machine.

 

"The Republic of Korea has a developed democratic electoral culture which has included the continuous improvement of the system, improvement of citizen''s civic consciousness, the rigorous investigation of election crimes, and the development of an advance voting system based on IT technology," said Kim Dai-nyeon. "We are managing the elections in a way that realizes real democracy in the neighborhood, which is harmonious and participatory" he added. 

 

The NEC will continue to make efforts to develop electoral systems and global democracy through various forms of international exchange with foreign diplomats from around the world.
